Meet Maggie

Maggie Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Maggie Jager, one of our long-time Bend Habitat volunteers.  She was a High School Biology teacher for many years (some of which was in Panama) and that experience has set her up well for dealing with the many different personality types she encounters at the ReStore and how to be very patient. With a background in biology, she loves that we are helping the planet and environment by diverting 40 tons from the landfill annually, reusing and reselling so many things at our ReStore. She loves too that our ReStore is making a huge impact in the area of affordable housing and keeps us building homes and changing lives here in Bend!
Maggie has done many volunteer jobs with Bend Habitat including ReStore cashier, customer service and receiving.  She is an instrumental part of the hardware section at the ReStore and keeps it looking fabulous all the time.  She was even brave enough to help tackle the giant job of moving that section 2 times as the ReStore has moved locations and then remodeled. Her attention to detail and dedication to doing things just right have made her an invaluable volunteer.  She is always the first to say “yes” to cover extra shifts or helping out when we are short staffed. She has helped with special events like the Furniture Flip and has even gone out with our Reclamation crew when they need more help.
One of Maggie’s favorite volunteering experiences was working on the Women Build Project with Alison Bublitz (Construction Manager) and then being able to attend the Home Dedication.  Being involved directly with the house and family made a big impression and reminds her of why she is volunteering.
Besides the fact that she loves Habitat’s mission, she says it is a great bunch of people to work with and loves the social environment. She feels her work here is appreciated and makes a difference in the world.
When wonder woman Maggie isn’t at Habitat with her cape on helping us help others she loves to hike, travel, sew, quilt and do lots of winter sports including snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
She is one AMAZING lady and we are so blessed to have her on our volunteer team.
Thank you Maggie, we love you.
